La Colombe is proud to announce that we will establish a new restaurant in place of “The Tasting Room” at Le Quartier Français in the second half of 2017. The new restaurant, (as yet unnamed) will open in August 2017, after refurbishments during winter.
It’s been a year to the day since I wrote about our last lunch at La Colombe. During that year, I have said, without hesitation – and to anyone who would listen – that it was the best meal of my life.
So, when we were invited to return and sample their new summer menu, expectations were already sky high. While we were undeniably excited to return, a small part of me was a little hesitant – what if I had hyped up our experience over the past year – and was left disappointed by this meal?

Fine dining restaurants around the globe will be on tenterhooks on Monday, when the organisers of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants are set to announce their much-fêted list. Ahead of that ceremony, the organisers have announced the list of restaurants ranked from 51 to 100. And we have excellent news: South Africa’s very own La Colombe has made the list, coming in at number 76 in the world.
It was announced today that La Colombe has been ranked 76th Best Restaurant in the World by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
It is the third time that La Colombe has made it onto the prestigious list. Today Restaurant, the organisers of the prestigious restaurant award, announced the restaurants ranked from 51 – 100 for 2016, and La Colombe is the only local restaurant on the list.
